Hurricane Dorian Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund

About

Hurricane Dorian, which hit the northern Bahamas as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record, has caused extreme destruction on the Grand Bahama and Abaco Islands and has killed multiple people there. Evacuations were ordered for parts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina as the Hurricane continued to move northward toward the U.S., where it eventually made landfall in North Carolina. Bright Funds has established the Hurricane Dorian Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, which is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing on-the-ground disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short- and long-term response and recovery to those affected by Hurricane Dorian. The composition of nonprofits in this Fund is subject to change as we learn more about the most pressing needs of those affected on the ground.

Team Rubicon

Team Rubicon utilizes the skills and experiences of military veterans and first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams. Team Rubicon has teams deployed across the U.S. and around the world to provide immediate relief to those impacted by disasters and humanitarian crises.

Team Rubicon has sent a team to the Bahamas to provide emergency medical services to people impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

Center For Disaster Philanthropy

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) recently launched its 2019 Hurricane Season Recovery Fund. The fund, much like CDP’s other funds, will focus on medium- and long-term recovery needs, which may include rebuilding homes and livelihoods; meeting the needs of vulnerable populations; supporting mental health services; and addressing pressing needs that will arise after immediate relief needs are met.

International Medical Corps

The International Medical Corps provides training and delivers healthcare and related services to those affected by conflict, natural disaster or disease. The organization trains people in their own communities, providing them the skills needed to recover, to chart their own path to self-reliance and to shape their own future as they become effective First Responders.
