There are many misconceptions and myths around Cinco de Mayo and its significance in Mexican Culture and History. In the US, it has historically been seen as a day of celebration commonly mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day. But south of the border, the holiday merits very little as the actual 1862 event is a reminder of a tough outgunned invasion of Puebla by the French army. While it was a battle won it was a war that was lost. In an effort to help shed light about this date we will be using this day not to celebrate but instead to raise awareness and funding about Mexican Heritage and help bring equity and change to those that identify as such and are in need of Legal and Educational resources.

Each year on March 31, International Transgender Day of Visibility celebrates the joy and resilience of trans and non-binary people everywhere by elevating their voices, visibility and experiences. We must however acknowledge that current discourse in the public sphere and increase in discriminatory legislation is taking a deep toll on the wellbeing of the transgender community. More and more trans people are increasingly worried about their own safety as we must always remember that anti-trans legislation and sentiment are directly tied to anti-trans violence. Every woman deserves to live her life safely and free of violence. Women are disproportionately victims of domestic violence and rape. The project provides ways to take steps to protect women and to help promote a culture that does not allow or accept violence against women. This project benefits women in Irving, Texas. The International Labor Organization (ILO) reports that almost ten million people today are being forced into sexual slavery. Victims of sex trafficking acquire adverse physical and psychological health conditions and social problems. Thus, sex trafficking is a critical health issue with broader social implications requiring medical and legal attention. The project provides emergency rescue operations and aftercare for at-risk women and girls sold into sex work and affected by HIV/AIDS in DRC.

A 22-year-old woman, Masha Amini, was killed by morality police in Iran. In mid-September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian-Kurdish woman named Masha Amini was arrested by the morality police — because she was not wearing a hijab — while visiting Iran’s capital Tehran with her family, as reported by The New York Times. The morality police detailed Amini, and while in their custody, authorities confirmed that she died, attributing her sudden death to a heart attack. However, CT scans of Amini’s body proved that she experienced a brain hemorrhage; eyewitness accounts, as well as footage and images of Amini after she was arrested, have led many to speculate that Iran’s morality police physically beat her. At the same time, she was detained, causing her to die. We have created this fund to fight the “relentless battle against the Iranian regime’s misogyny” and advocate the right for women to choose what they wear — essentially protesting the hijab laws. The fund will support the committee’s efforts to help achieve equal rights for Iranian women. The fund will buy billboards, ads, and other large-scale visibility options in major cities. Uplifting the voices of the Iranian people through these mediums will bring national and international awareness to our communities regarding the worldwide protests on this human rights issue.In the United States, You may be able to claim a deduction on your federal taxes if you donated to this fund. If Yanomami is ill, so is Planet Earth The Yanomami Indigenous Territory is the largest of its kind in Brazil and was established in 1992 by the government. The Yanomami people believe they are the guardians of the Amazon Forest - in the words of Shaman Davi Kopenawa: “there is only one sky and we must take care of it, if it becomes sick, everything will come to an end”. Last month, Brazilian government declared a public health emergency in the Yanomami Indigenous Territory. Shocking images of starving children and elders were made public, bringing attention to the tragedy caused by years of illegal mining in this region of Amazon. Protecting the rights of Indigenous and local communities, and strengthening their economies, is not just the right thing to do. It’s the smart thing to do. Indigenous people take care of forests better than anyone in the world, and we all need healthy forests to slow climate change. Human trafficking exists in many forms, including forced labor, sex trafficking, forced marriage, criminal exploitation, and domestic servitude, and is a deep and pervasive issue all over the world. According to the U.S. Department of State, there are estimated to be 24.9 million adults and children who are subject to human trafficking around the globe. Antisemitic incidents have increased over the past week in Los Angeles, with hate groups holding public demonstrations and distributing antisemitic flyers throughout the area. The recent increase in antisemitic activity is unfortunately not uncommon, as 1 in 4 Jewish Americans reported experiencing antisemitism in 2021. The following organizations are doing the important work to actively fight antisemitism by investigating, reporting on, and speaking out against antisemitic acts, educating the masses on the history and dangers of antisemitism, and supporting those impacted by antisemitism. Human Trafficking is one of the serious problems in the world. It is a means of exploitation of women and children by forcing them into the sex industry, domestic and factory labor, organ transplantation and illegal adoption.A ccording to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the trafficking in persons is "a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights." Traffickers around the world are involved in the illegal trade of thousands of men, women, and children used for forced labor, domestic servitude, and sexual exploitation in developed countries, like the U.S., and developing countries in cities, rural towns, and suburban enclaves. There has been progress over the last decades, but the world is not on track to achieve gender equality by 2030. The social and economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has made the situation even bleaker. Progress in many areas, including time spent on unpaid care and domestic work, decision-making regarding sexual and reproductive health, and gender-responsive budgeting, is falling behind. Women’s health services, already poorly funded, have faced major disruptions. Violence against women remains endemic. And despite women’s leadership in responding to COVID-19, they still trail men in securing the decision-making positions they deserve. Commitment and bold action are needed to accelerate progress, including through the promotion of laws, policies, budgets and institutions that advance gender equality. There are more people who live in slavery alive today than during the entirety of the European/American slave trade. Conservative estimates place this number at over 4.5M people in just Asia, including women and children. The vast majority are in slavery over a medical debt for a life-saving procedure. The initial loans are never more than a few hundred dollars. If they can’t make the payments they are taken as slaves to work off the debt in brick kilns. Fines, interest, penalties, and other unethical charges are levied making it physically impossible for them to ever pay the debt. A debt that is passed down to their children if the parent dies. The average cost is $327 per person. That’s not a typo. People who have been living as slaves, oftentimes for their entire life, are able to go free for $327. Entire families are set free together for less money than a weekend at Disney World. This includes enough to help them get on their feet and help them establish a source of income. The workers live in deplorable conditions, the water they use to mix the soil gives them skin diseases and the hazardous fumes from the billowing black smoke during the brick-making process causes asthma and other diseases and increase the risk of contracting tuberculosis. There are no proper toilet facilities, at the kilns or where the workers live. The women have to go in the open, either late at night or early morning. They are harassed, their photos are taken and these women are then exploited. They have no hope of ever being free until God moved on the hearts of generous conduit donors to pay their debt, which was all from medical bills. Today they are free. China's Muslim Uyghurs face systematic oppression from their own government. Their home province of Xinjiang has been turned into a police state—an estimated up to 3 million Uighur Muslims have been detained in a network of concentration camps. Eight people, many of them women of Asian descent, were killed Tuesday evening in shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors and a suspect is in custody, law-enforcement officials said. Crimes targeting Asian Americans have risen dramatically since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Nearly 3,800 instances of discrimination against Asians in the past year. The actual number could be much higher. Many aren't aware of all the racist violent hate crimes against Asians in the United States that have spiked recently due to lack of news coverage . Shooting in Atlanta was another heartbreaking attack on innocent women and men .We cannot stay silent in the face of racial injustice whether it is within our own communities or outside of them. When Solidariedade Na Mokili team met to discuss the tragedy of injustice overtaking America, these were the words ( Love. Pain. Solidarity. Fear. Togetherness. Frustration. Disappointment. Anger. Betrayal. Trust. Despondency. Hope. Action ) we spoke and the scope of our emotions. But one thing was appallingly clear: George Floyd’s inexcusable death was a spark applied to a field that has burst into flame. And the words “I can’t breathe,” ignored by the Minneapolis police officers, have deep meaning to thousands upon thousands of Black people and their allies. Discrimination is not only ethically unacceptable, but it also entails substantial economic and social costs. Anti-LGBT discrimination hinders economic development through a wide range of channels. It causes lower investment in human capital due to LGBT-phobic bullying at school and poor returns, it reduces economic output by excluding LGBT talents from the labor market, it undermines productivity by impairing LGBT people’s mental health, it erodes public finances through significant spending on social and health services to address the consequences of LGBT people’s marginalization, etc. Anti-LGBT discrimination is also detrimental to social cohesion through the persistence of restrictive gender norms that impede gender equality more broadly speaking and, hence, the expansion of social and economic roles, especially for women. Only half of the lesbian, gay, and bi people (46 percent) and trans people (47 percent) feel able to be open about their sexual orientation or gender identity to everyone in their family.to provide independent and rigorous research, insight, and communications that help speed equality and opportunity for all. We work to ensure that all people have a fair chance to pursue health and happiness, earn a living, take care of the ones they love, be safe in their communities, and participate in civic life.
