Funds in Disaster Relief

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Taiwan on April 3rd, taking the lives of at least 10 and leaving thousands more injured. This earthquake is the strongest earthquake to reach Taiwan in 25 years, leaving behind damage to infrastructure. Recovery efforts are underway, and the following nonprofits have deployed resources to Taiwan to provide relief.

The Smokehouse Creek Wildfire, originating in Texas, is the second-largest wildfire in state history. This wildfire, along with several other fires, have spread throughout the Texas Panhandle, Oklahoma, and Kansas, devastating various communities. Many have faced displacement from their homes and livelihoods, and access to resources has been limited. The following organizations are providing relief to those impacted by the wildfires by providing immediate and long-term relief efforts.

San Diego County has been hit by a series of historically heavy winter storms that have resulted in widespread flooding across our region. Since October 1, San Diego has recorded more than 7 inches of rain with more than 6 inches falling in the last 18 days alone. We could reach our annual average rainfall, 9.79 inches, by February 10. The wettest day, January 22, delivered the highest 24-hour rainfall amounts in San Diego since 1850, according to the National Weather Service, and caused $90 million in damages. The following nonprofit organizations are currently working to provide basic services and aid to those impacted by the record-breaking storms and subsequent flooding. A series of tornadoes struck the Middle Tennessee communities of Clarksville, Hendersonville, Madison, and several others on December 9th, 2023, resulting in six deaths and dozens of injuries. Devastating damage has been done to businesses, homes, and infrastructure, and many are facing displacement and lack of access to food, water, shelter, and medical care. Crews are currently clearing debris throughout the impacted areas in order to facilitate search and rescue efforts. The following organizations are currently on the ground in Tennessee providing essential disaster recovery resources and support to those in need. A powerful earthquake struck western Nepal on November 3, 2023, resulting in hundreds of deaths and leaving hundreds more injured and displaced. The earthquake led to subsequent landslides, creating barriers to search and rescue efforts and causing massive damage to community infrastructure. Search and rescue efforts have now been concluded, and humanitarian aid is now the primary focus. The following organizations are providing aid to impacted communities in the form of emergency supplies and medical services. 2.2 million people are facing war in the Gaza Strip/Palestine, this war has impacted civilians the most as more than 8,000 Palestinians have been killed including more than 3000 children and around 20,000 have been injured. Half of the population of people in Gaza have been displaced from their home in the north to the south of the Strip, these people are missing the basic things to survive. The following organizations are providing relief to those impacted by the bombings by providing food, water, shelter, medical care, and supplies, among other critical resources. Islamic Relief is providing emergency aid to the flood-stricken regions of Libya. They are working with local partners on the ground to deliver urgently needed relief such as mattresses, blankets, food packs, and other vital aid to affected communities. Islamic Relief was one of the first humanitarian organizations to reach Derna, one of the affected cities, and has already committed an initial £100,000 to provide emergency aid. The situation in Libya is dire, with over 11,300 people reported dead and around 10,000 people still missing. The flooding has caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings. Schools and shops have been ordered to close. The city of Derna alone is estimated to have lost over 3,000 residents in the disaster. Islamic Relief’s response aims to address the immediate needs of flood-affected victims and provide them with essential support.
